Has, have and had
When ‘has’, ‘have’ and ‘had’ function as predicates, they can be split as follows.
Has does + have
Have do + have
Had did + have
Consider the following sentence.
I have a pen
In the above sentence, have is the predicate. The ‘have’ contains ‘do’ within. The do remains in a subdued state. The sentence can be written as follows.
I do have a pen.
In the sentence 2, the ‘have’ does not possess any ‘do’ within. The ‘do’ emerges into an assertive one.
When the have possesses ‘do’ within, the environmental factors might overpower its predicate character.
I have a match today.
